Portland, OR // 2021
The demising and adaptive reuse of an industrial tool repair shop to commercial office and commissary kitchens, this project focused primarily on the restoration and rehab of a ‘50s concrete warehouse. This included a series of voluntary seismic, envelope, and accessibility upgrades throughout the original building as well as enhancing access to the existing storage mezzanine. In addition to creating more modern, usable spaces, one of the primary design goals was to celebrate the original bowstring trusses and incorporate natural light through the addition of skylights and restoring the glass overhead doors that face the street. A close collaboration with the Portland Street Art Alliance allowed us to bring a new installation on the North wall, building upon the great tradition of art and murals in the newly created mural district of the Central Eastside.
