The Client, who happens to be an Architects daughter, was very hands on and collaborative during the design process as she looked to convert an unused garage into an Accessory Dwelling Unit for her mother. The goal was to create an honest, but finished space that would reflect its original intended use. The original wood trusses were exposed and set against a floor and vaulted ceiling of reclaimed fir to give a raw appearance to a volume that feels much larger than its mere 240 square feet.
MURRAY FLOATING HOUSE
From the beginning, the client had a minimalist, yet functional space in mind with expansive views of the river. The modern feel was enhanced by the exposed wood structure that extends beyond the perimeter walls, visually connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces. By reducing the amount of furniture we were able to give them an uncluttered space that would easily accommodate multiple people for entertaining.
